If you haven’t already set your goals and made a plan for your business for 2017, relax — it’s not too late! But it is time to get serious about where your business is heading this year. It’s time to review 2016, make a plan, and begin setting goals.

Just get started. We tend to procrastinate when we feel like we don’t have “the goal” or when we don’t feel prepared enough to tackle a huge task like this. Our solution: don’t waste any more time! Don’t wait until you have some extra free time, and don’t wait for the perfect goal to cross your mind. Just get started… Today!

Think realistically. Do you find yourself feeling like your goals aren’t big enough? Don’t let this stop you from getting started. While having big goals is great, the reality is this: we need SMART goals — specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and time-based. That means setting small goals that you know you can accomplish to lead to giant goals. There’s no such thing as “too small” when it comes to your goals. And having large goals can often make us feel like we’re chasing an impossible dream, and that’s the best way to discourage us.

Commit. Set a timeline, and give constant attention to your goals. Don’t take time to set goals if you’re going to forget them over time. Once you create your goal(s), plan daily, weekly, and monthly actions you can take to achieve success. Staying committed to your goals also means making adjustments as needed, not ignoring them when your timeline begins to shift.

Call in for backup. Setting a goal yourself doesn’t mean you’re the only one who can achieve it. You have an entire team behind you; leverage them. As long as you’re overseeing a goal and ensuring that it’s accomplished, reaching out for support is never a bad thing.

Celebrate the little things. Celebrating accomplishing a large goal is important, but celebrating the small steps it takes to get there is vital if you want to maintain momentum. Give credit when needed, and share your success with your team — especially the aspects that impact them the most.
